The Joker’s Easy, 31-Step Plan for Pulling Off a Crime in ‘The Dark Knight’

He’s one of Gotham’s premier criminal masterminds … but he could probably stand to simplify his process

As Alfred famously told Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight, “Some men just want to watch the world burn.” Heath Ledger’s Joker was one of those men. You could tell because he set a pile of money on fire so he could literally watch it burn:

Absolutely no one can question the Joker’s passion for crime and chaos, and his knack for both. But if we had to criticize the purple-cloaked villain for something, well, it’d probably be his plans (either that or the fact that no one wants to hear his scar origin stories anymore). Not because they don’t work — just ask Maggie Gyllenhaal how well they worked in The Dark Knight — but because they’re just so freaking complicated. Couldn’t the guy have cut some corners or, I don’t know, not have made his schemes entirely dependent on the whims of other people? Just watch the video above, and marvel at how meticulous (and ridiculous) one of the most iconic villains in modern film is.
