Ezekiel Elliott will play this week after yet another court ruling Friday morning postponed the decision about the enforcement of his suspension.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted Elliott a request for an administrative stay, which temporarily blocks the league from enforcing his six-game suspension levied after a league investigation found “substantial and persuasive evidence supporting a finding that [Elliott] engaged in physical violence against [ex-girlfriend Tiffany] Thompson on multiple occasions” in July 2016.
Friday’s court ruling comes four days after Elliott’s motion for a preliminary injunction was denied by a judge in New York. That decision meant that Elliott’s suspension could begin this week, but now his status beyond Sunday is once again up in the air, as Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News reported.
As soon as next week, a three-judge panel will rule on Elliott’s emergency motion for a preliminary injunction. If Elliott is forced to begin serving his six-game suspension next week, he would not be eligible to return until Christmas Eve against the Seahawks in Week 16.
