In an unexpected development, Kevin Spacey’s role in All the Money in the World, the upcoming Ridley Scott film about the 1973 kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III, will reportedly be recast. Spacey, who has been accused of multiple incidents of sexual assault and harassment in recent weeks, will be replaced in all of his scenes by 87-year-old Christopher Plummer.

The Sony production is set for release in theaters across the United States on December 22, which is less than two months away. Scott is said to have decided to recast Spacey’s role “unilaterally,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, reportedly informing Sony of the move late Wednesday afternoon. Variety reports that costars Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg “are expected to be involved with the reshoots.”

On October 29, Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct by actor Anthony Rapp in an interview with BuzzFeed News. Since then, numerous individuals, including several former crew members on Netflix’s House of Cards, alleged further sexual misconduct. Less than a week ago, Netflix announced that it would no longer work with Spacey on any production, including House of Cards.

A THR source noted that Plummer was the original first choice for the role of J. Paul Getty in All the Money in the World, but the studio wanted “a bigger name.” The movie was pulled as the closing-night screening of this week’s AFI Fest in Los Angeles after the Spacey allegations came to light.
