‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Trailer: Finally, Hope van Dyne Gets to Put the Suit On

The most impressive character in the original movie appears to be getting just as much screen time as Ant-Man in the sequel (thank god)

With all the hype surrounding Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, you might’ve forgotten about the other Marvel movie that’s coming out this year: the Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The first trailer for the movie, which is out in July, dropped on Tuesday morning, and it’s clear that the movie will be putting equal emphasis on the second half of its title.

In Ant-Man, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang was undeniably the star, even though he was being trained by perpetual badass Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), who would’ve been the movie’s hero if her overprotective father, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), let her put the suit on. As enjoyable as Ant-Man is, for much of the movie it’s hard not to wonder how much easier everything would have been had Hope been allowed to participate—she can land a mean punch.

Thankfully, it looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp is righting that previous wrong, since, as the Wasp, Hope van Dyne is now gliding past kitchen knives in slow motion.

We still don’t know much about the sequel, other than the fact our heroes will be trying to rescue van Dyne’s mother, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), from the “quantum realm” where she’s still trapped in miniature form. We also know that Walton Goggins will play a villain. Again. However, as long as Ant-Man and the Wasp makes good use of shrinking and ballooning random objects in fight scenes—shout-out to Thomas the Tank Engine—I’m sold.

I did not know I needed a giant Hello Kitty Pez dispenser in my life, but here we are.
