Welcome to 2019, the age of your favorite franchises being remade, rebooted, or expanded—and your childhood memories being irrevocably altered. Have you ever watched a sequel or a prequel or a spinoff of a film you love, only to realize that this new wealth of content drastically changes your understanding of canon, original scenes, and the character choices within? Like when a voice says, “No one’s ever really gone,” in the trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX—Rise of Skywalker, did you think, “Really? No one? Has ever really gone? No one?!”
We’re now happy to introduce Rewriting the Script, a project that gives us an opportunity to use the benefit of hindsight to retool some of our favorite moments in film and accommodate our new reality. First up, please enjoy the script revision of Star Wars: Episode VI—Return of the Jedi.
