The NFL announced on Friday that it will not suspend Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill following an investigation into a report of battery at Hill’s home in March and a subsequent April audio recording in which Hill told Crystal Espinal, the mother of his now-4-year-old son, “you need to be terrified of me, too, bitch.” The league said in a statement that it “cannot conclude that Mr. Hill violated the Personal Conduct Policy.”
In March, Hill’s son suffered a broken arm and was taken to a hospital. After concluding its investigation, the Johnson County district attorney’s office said that it believed a crime had occurred, but declined to file charges against Hill or Espinal, saying that it could not determine who was responsible for the boy’s injuries.
The NFL reportedly spent more than eight hours interviewing Hill in June, but the league could not get in contact with Espinal. Ultimately, the NFL echoed the Johnson County DA’s conclusion, saying in the statement that “local law enforcement authorities have publicly advised that the available evidence does not permit them to determine who caused the child’s injuries.”
The child was reportedly removed from Hill and Espinal’s custody in April, and the NFL stated that, “Our understanding is that the child is safe and that the child’s ongoing care is being directed and monitored by the Johnson County District Court and the Johnson County Department for Children and Families.”
Hill will be able to attend the Chiefs’ training camp when it opens on July 26 and participate in all team activities. Before the March incident became public, the Chiefs and Hill were reportedly at work on what was expected to be a record-setting contract extension for the wide receiver.
