AyoDosunmu

Preseason question: Can Dosunmu be a foundational piece for the new-look Wolves? The Timberwolves have completely reimagined the roster around Anthony Edwards. The jumbo lineups are out, having found their playoff ceiling; faster, rangier lineups are in, as Minnesota seeks to broaden out its offense beyond one-on-one creation. That starts with having players alongside Edwards who can make quick decisions with the ball—which is to say that it starts with players like Dosunmu. Acquiring Dosunmu was a coup for Minnesota, and re-signing him to a five-year deal was a statement of intent. The Wolves want to run more, and they landed one of the quickest players, end to end, in the entire league. They needed someone to take playmaking pressure off Ant and added a burst driver who can make things happen from the second side. They needed cleaner spacing, and Dosunmu has turned himself into a knockdown option from deep. During the four years and change that Dosunmu spent in Chicago, the Bulls never seemed to know what to do with him. He was a pleasant surprise, then a part-time starter, then an afterthought on an expiring contract. Minnesota gave Ayo the fresh start he needed, and in return he’s helping the Wolves set the template for the future of the team.
