Mauioga is a big, battle-tested blocker with top-tier power and nimble feet. A three-year starter for the Hurricanes, he played his whole career at right tackle—and could stay there in the pros—but brings intriguing upside as a potential guard convert, as well. Sporting a thick, burly frame with a powerful lower half, he punches with plenty of pop in pass protection, shocking defenders to neutralize their initial attack. He’s a relatively easy mover for his size, showing quickness and agility out of his stance. He’s a savvy player who understands positioning and blocking angles, first squeezing down when his linemate needs help before picking up looping rushers to the edge. He’s physical but brings a calm, collected, and methodical style as a blocker. Even when he gets beaten initially, he never panics. In the run game, he fires out of his stance and uproots defenders. He can clear lanes on down blocks, washing defenders down the line. He looks for work when he’s uncovered; he never wants an opponent to have an easy snap.
Mauigoa lacks top-tier athleticism, length, and foot speed and could struggle to match speedy rushers at the next level. He is late to punch occasionally, which leads to balance issues in pass protection. He’s occasionally a beat slow to react to stunts. He leans into run blocks too much at times, which opens him up to rips and push-pull moves. Some teams may view him as a guard in the NFL.
