RareVersatility
Bernard is a well-built and physical pass catcher with rare alignment versatility, strong hands, and run-after-the-catch talent. A two-year standout for the Crimson Tide after stops at Michigan State and Washington, he put together his best season in 2025, grabbing 64 catches for 862 yards and seven scores while adding 101 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Bernard has good size and shows a good feel for zone coverage, instinctively settling into the soft spot between defenders to give his quarterback a target underneath. He’s quick and agile both as a route runner and with the ball in his hands, changing direction on a dime to leave defenders in the dust. He has reliable hands, has a good feel for the sideline, and does a nice job of twisting his body to snag off-target throws. He had just one drop in 2025 (for a 1.5 percent drop rate) and notched just four drops in his career, per PFF. Bernard makes hay after the catch, smoothly transitioning from catch to run while regularly making the first man miss. He turns into a running back with the ball in his hands, flashing some wiggle and bounce in space while weaving through the defense and following his blocks. He makes the most of schemed touches and is regularly used on end-arounds, sweeps, screens, wildcat looks, and even some backfield runs. He works hard as a blocker, showing the strength to latch on and wall off his opponents. He also brings experience returning punts.
Bernard can be slowed down and rerouted at the line by tight press coverage. He lacks elite speed down the field. He doesn’t always play to his size at the catch point, and he caught just five of 14 contested catch opportunities in 2025, per PFF. His overall college production, on both a season-long (never had more than 64 catches in a season) and per-route basis (career 1.90 yards per route run), is underwhelming.
