Louis is undersized but consistently makes his presence known as a savvy coverage defender, aggressive tackler, and crafty blitzer. A two-year starter for the Panthers, he racked up 10 sacks, 25.5 tackles for a loss, six picks, six passes defensed, and two forced fumbles over the past two seasons. He’s athletic and quick, showing good range in coverage with a natural feel for spacing. He reads the quarterback’s eyes and recognizes schemes and route combinations to quickly break on the ball. He can run in coverage on tight ends and has a good instinct for when to turn back and look for the ball. He’s a decisive defender with top-notch closing speed; when he triggers downhill, he arrives at the ball in a blink. He has the range and physicality to string runs out and chase ballcarriers out of bounds. He shoots through the line before offensive players can gather themselves to make a block. He’s slippery and elusive when taking on second-level blocks, making it hard for opposing players to get their hands on him. He’s quick-footed when blitzing, using jukes and Euro-steps to bound around blocks and into the pocket.
Louis is undersized and has a thin frame, and he may be viewed as a sub-package player or even a player who needs to convert to safety. He lacks stopping power as a tackler, and there are times when he struggles to disengage from blocks, allowing himself to get sealed out of the play. He can be engulfed by offensive linemen at the second level. He occasionally false-steps and loses a step in coverage. He takes aggressive angles on the ball, and there are moments when that pulls him out of position.
