Hunter is built like a beer keg and brings forklift power to the interior defensive line, where he plugs up the run game and mucks up the pocket. A battle-tested bruiser with a rotund frame and very long arms, he transferred to Texas Tech in 2025 after playing three seasons at UCF, racking up 2.5 sacks, 10.5 tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble for the Red Raiders, adding 25 pressures and 16 stops, per PFF. Hunter plays with power at the snap, firing out of his stance to reset the line of scrimmage and push opponents back into the pocket. He stacks offensive linemen and keeps his eyes in the backfield, manning multiple gaps before shedding blocks to take down the ballcarrier. He stymies double-team attempts, dropping his anchor to hold his ground. He rushes with a low-man-wins attitude, out-leveraging opponents to drive them back off their spot. He’s relentless from snap to whistle and keeps his feet moving, showing good range for a big man to string runs out laterally. He is a savvy defender who sniffs out screens, and he gets his hands up to try to knock down passes. He missed just four tackles in 2025.
There are times Hunter allows himself to get pushed/sealed away from the run. His pass-rush plan can be undisciplined and out of control at times; he will lose sight of the quarterback and end up out of position. He relies on pure power over technique on passing downs, and lacks pass-rush production. He may be viewed as an early-down run-stuffer only.
