VegaIoane
Powerfully built bruiser on the interior offensive line who creates movement in the run game and stops bull-rushers in their tracks.
Ioane is a relentless, sturdy blocker who plays with steely reliability and a tenacious demeanor. A three-year starter for the Nittany Lions, he lined up primarily at left guard during his college career (1,879 snaps, per PFF) but also saw reps at right guard (314), center (17), and a handful at both tackle spots (13). He’s a tough and physical player who thumps opponents with a strong, accurate punch at the snap, making sure to stay square to his target and stymie their progress. He works his hands in pass pro, resetting his punch when he needs to reestablish leverage. He drops his weight and stonewalls bull-rushers, refusing to cede ground while maintaining pocket integrity. He shows awareness for stunts and twists, keeping his head on a swivel to pick up pass rushers who come into his area. He gave up zero sacks and just one quarterback hit in the past three seasons, per PFF. In the run game, Ioane has the strength to uproot interior defenders and push them off the line, consistently firing off the snap with excellent leverage. He’s a smooth mover and can climb quickly to the second level on combo blocks, locating and sealing opponents out of the play.
Ioane will resort to ducking his head when pass rushers get a step on him, causing him to lose his balance. He lacks elite length and doesn’t have the foot speed or range to play on the edge in the pros. The lack of positional versatility at the next level could cause him to drop a bit in the draft.
