The Player
Hampton is a tall press corner who’s at his best matching up with bigger straight-line receivers on the outside. He’s long and strong enough to reroute receivers and has the frame and wingspan to compete for 50-50 balls.
He’s a powerful striker who delivers big hits in off and zone coverage. His length allows him to reach in and break up passes without going through the receiver, and he can rip the ball out before the catch is completed. He has some playmaking upside, highlighted by an impressive 2024 interception against Virginia Tech, and he enters 2026 with 17 passes defended and three interceptions.
Hampton is also a tough run defender who steps up and fights to get off blocks. He recorded 45 tackles, including 35 solo, in 2025 and enters 2026 with 72 career tackles. He also contributes on kickoff and punt coverage.
There are concerns about his top-end speed and instincts with his back to the quarterback. Hampton doesn’t always know when to turn and locate the ball, can give up too much separation at the top of his routes when he doesn’t win with physicality, and struggles to recover when caught out of phase. He’s also tight and can struggle to recover from poor angles or make tackles in space.
Hampton started four games in 2024 and all 13 in 2025. His combination of size, length, strength, and physicality gives him intriguing outside-corner potential, but improving his deep coverage, instincts, and ability to recover will be key to his development.
