The Takeaway

The Player

Swain is a talented corner with a high ceiling and an electric punt returner. He’s a press-zone corner with the frame, length, and speed to turn and run with receivers on the outside. He reads the receiver well and turns to locate the ball when he’s in phase.

He closes well, times his reach to break up passes, and can separate receivers from the ball with big hits. In matchup zone, he sorts out route combinations, reads the quarterback, and tracks the ball rather than simply guarding grass.

Swain is big and long enough to compete for 50-50 balls. He’s not a ball hawk at this point, but he’s a natural hands catcher who intercepted two passes and recorded five passes defended in 2025. He also forced two fumbles.

He gets off blocks and sticks his face in the fan as a run defender. However, he can come in too hot and struggles to recover from poor angles as an open-field tackler. In coverage, he’s tight and can give up separation to better route runners when he doesn’t win with size and physicality. He can panic and grab when he starts to lose, and his lack of recovery speed leaves him vulnerable over the top.

Swain adds significant value as an All-SEC punt returner. He ranks second in school history with three punt-return touchdowns and forced 18 missed tackles on 19 returns in 2025. He breaks tackles, turns on the jets when he finds a crease, and is fearless with the ball in his hands, although he muffed two punts in 2025.

Swain played in all 12 games in 2025, starting three and logging 493 defensive snaps. His combination of size, physicality, coverage ability, and explosive return skills gives him a high ceiling.
