The Takeaway
The Player
Hill is a versatile, productive, and experienced off-the-ball linebacker with outstanding quickness and speed.
At his best, he’s a downhill run defender who excels at shooting through gaps. His burst—backed by a top-three 10-yard split among linebackers at the combine—shows up consistently on tape, helping him get his 31.5 TFL over the past three seasons. He slips blocks in tight spaces, sifts through traffic between the tackles, and closes well in pursuit, aided by one of the fastest 40-yard dash times at his position.
There are moments when he gets stuck on his blocks or pushed out of gaps when reached at the second level. He’ll also duck his head into contact and can get caught guessing, which leads to occasional gap discipline issues.
As a pass rusher, Hill is instinctive and productive. He tracks the quarterback well and shows a natural feel for attacking protections. He closes effectively from depth and off the edge, slipping past running backs and flashing bend and get-off. He also has an inside move against offensive tackles and finished his three-year career with 17 sacks. In coverage, he gets deep and keys in on the quarterback in hook/curl zones.
His ball skills also stand out—he tracks it well, has strong hands, and intercepted two passes in 2025. However, he can be manipulated by the quarterback’s eyes and drift out of position, and his closing burst in coverage doesn’t always match what he shows as a run defender or pass rusher. He has the speed to run with tight ends but needs to improve his footwork and route recognition in man coverage.
Hill forced seven fumbles over the past two seasons, highlighting his playmaking ability. And his tackling improved in 2025, as he showed better body control and a more consistent wrap-up technique, but poor angles can still lead to misses.
The Draft
Hill is one of the best inside linebackers in the 2026 class. At least one Texas player has been drafted in the first round in each of the past three drafts. That run is in danger, but Hill gives the Longhorns their best shot at extending the streak.
The Projection
Hill is talented enough to develop into a starter early in his career, and he can make an immediate impact in sub-packages. His versatility, range, and frame compare favorably to those of 2025 31st pick Jihaad Campbell, who is coming off a strong rookie season for the Eagles. Both are off-the-ball linebackers who run well and can make an impact rushing the passer.
