The Takeaway

The Player

Hood is a physical press corner with a good frame, average length, and above-average speed measurables. Last season was his first as a full-time starter—he redshirted at Auburn in 2023 and played as a backup at Colorado in 2024—and his inexperience shows up on tape at times. But he’s a competitive and tough cornerback with a good blend of size and speed.

Hood has the strength and length to reroute receivers at the line of scrimmage and turns and runs well. He closes strongly and delivers big hits in off coverage. He tends to look over his outside shoulder when he has his back to the quarterback, but he did a better job of turning his head inside at Senior Bowl practices. He keeps working and stays connected when quarterbacks extend plays.

He excels in 50-50 and jump ball situations, pushing receivers around at the catch point and attempting to rip or punch the ball out before they can complete a catch. His 40 1/2–inch vertical jump at the combine is an outstanding result for a corner. He intercepted three passes over the past two seasons, and he catches the ball well enough to make plays.

His tape raises some concerns about his ability to recognize and sort through route combinations in zone looks, and he is prone to guessing or getting sloppy with his technique. He falls off some tackles, but he doesn’t shy away from contact and flashes the ability to get off blocks. And he chases with good effort. He covered punts and kickoffs in 2024.

The Draft

Hood is one of the top five corners and a top 50 overall prospect in this class. He may not be experienced or polished enough to go in the first round, but he could develop into a second-round steal.

The Projection

Hood is an ascending corner with the traits and tenacity to develop into a starter early in his career. He’s not as polished or versatile as former second-round pick Jaylon Johnson was coming out of Utah, but he could become a similar player if he’s able to reach his potential.
