The Takeaway

The Player

Johnson is a quick-footed rhythm runner who wins with burst, decisiveness, and efficiency between the tackles. After working in a rotational role early in his career, his 2025 breakout showcased that he is a productive, high-energy back with clear strengths in short-area quickness and receiving ability.

Johnson’s run game is built on sharp cuts and immediate acceleration through creases. His feet are exceptionally quick, allowing him to make decisive one-cut moves and get vertical without hesitation. He generates missed tackles at a strong rate, although more through his timing and quickness than from true elusiveness in space. He’s not particularly creative in the open field and lacks the speed to consistently break long runs, but he maximizes what’s available.

His lean frame shows up in contact situations. Johnson can go down more easily than expected and doesn’t consistently push piles or generate extra yards through power. He’s more of a slasher than a finisher, relying on burst rather than physicality.

He adds real value in the passing game. Johnson is a natural receiver who transitions quickly upfield and can be used on screens, checkdowns, and designed touches. His ability to contribute in this phase boosts his versatility and third-down appeal.

His ball security is a major plus; he’s had very few fumbles across his career, reinforcing trust in high-leverage situations. His high-character profile and work ethic should put him on an upward developmental trajectory.

The Draft

He’s a day three pick, likely in Round 4.

The Projection

Johnson projects as a rotational RB2 or RB3 with passing-down utility. His quickness, efficiency, and receiving ability give him a clear role in a committee, but his lack of size, power, and breakaway speed limits his ceiling as a feature back. He plays like Tyjae Spears, but with less speed.
