The Takeaway
The Player
Delane is a polished, experienced, scheme-versatile corner with outstanding instincts and good ball skills. He transferred to LSU in 2025 after three seasons at Virginia Tech, earned unanimous All-American honors, and was named first-team All-SEC. In 44 college games, including 40 starts, he had 41 passes defended, 33 pass breakups, and eight interceptions.
His arm length is a red flag, he has small hands, and he is not a natural pass catcher. But he puts himself in position to make plays, tracks and frames the ball well, and finds ways to finish. He didn’t work out at the combine, but he runs well on tape. He gets his head turned around and stacks receivers, making it tough for them to get behind him.
He closes well when breaking on routes in off coverage and quickly sorts out route combinations in zone looks. He splits high-low route combinations and jumps underneath routes. He knows how to read the quarterback and hunt the ball.
As a run defender, he steps up and cuts the legs out from under ballcarriers. His effort is excellent.
The Draft
Delane may have short arms and small hands, but he’s still the best corner in this class and a potential top 10 pick because of his outstanding tape and production.
The Projection
Delane is an NFL-ready corner who should step into a starting role as a rookie and is capable of developing into a team’s no. 1 corner early in his career. His instincts, versatility, and toughness compare well to 2022 first-round pick Trent McDuffie, who also has short arms and small hands.
