The Takeaway

The Player

Trigg is a high-upside pass-catching tight end whose production and role expanded significantly at Baylor, culminating in 80 catches, 1,089 yards, and nine touchdowns over his final two seasons. He stands out physically because of his elite length, large hands, and ability to make acrobatic, highlight-worthy catches. He’s explosive off the line, effective down the seam, and tough after the catch, showing strength through contact and flashes of elusiveness.

However, his game is uneven. Despite his ball skills, his contested-catch success rate is inconsistent, and he lacks polish as a route runner, limiting his ability to separate consistently. Athletically, he’s more smooth than sudden, without elite burst in space. As a blocker, he’s underdeveloped and often disengaged—functioning more like a big slot receiver than a traditional tight end.

Off the field, Trigg carries notable risk. Past academic issues, a transfer under questionable circumstances, a suspension, and reports of poor practice habits and immaturity raise concerns about his reliability and consistency.

The Draft

Trigg is a top-50 talent based on his pass-catching ability, but there are questions about his character, accountability, and work ethic. That’s why he could come off the board anywhere from Round 3 to Round 5.

The Projection

There’s a long list of talented, productive pass-catching tight ends who’ve hung around the league for a long time despite some early off-field concerns, including Martellus Bennett, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr., Darren Waller, and Evan Engram. Engram is the best stylistic and athletic comp for Trigg in that group. Both guys are in the 6-foot-3-plus, 240-pound range and are souped-up wide receivers with limited blocking production. The team that takes a shot on Trigg in the middle rounds will be counting on his continued maturation and Engram-like production in the passing game.
