The Takeaway

The Player

Delp is a traits-based tight end whose athletic profile and experience suggest that he has more upside than his college production indicates. A heavily utilized multiyear contributor at Georgia, he brings a blend of size, straight-line explosiveness, and alignment versatility but remains somewhat unrefined in key areas that have limited his statistical output.

As a receiver, Delp wins with speed and vertical push more than nuance. He’s a linear athlete who is most effective attacking seams and working across the field on crossers, where he can build momentum and stress defenses. He doesn’t show much suddenness or separation quickness at the top of his routes, which limits his ability to consistently uncover in tight man coverage. However, when he’s schemed into space, his acceleration becomes a real asset.

That same straight-line burst shows up after the catch. Delp is dangerous when he gets the ball on the move—particularly on screens and quick-hitters—where he can quickly chew up ground and challenge pursuit angles. He’s not elusive in tight quarters, but his stride length and speed make it difficult to bring him down once he gets a runway.

As a blocker, Delp is experienced and competitive but inconsistent. He shows good effort, angles, and initial positioning, often winning early in reps. However, limitations in his arm length, hand strength, and balance prevent him from sustaining blocks, leading to too many disengagements. He projects as functional but not dominant in line.

The Draft

Delp is a different cat in terms of his personality, so NFL teams will need to decide whether he fits in their locker room. His production was inconsistent, and he never produced to the level of his traits while at Georgia. However, there’s no denying his explosiveness and his potential to develop into a bigger playmaker in the NFL than he was in college. With that in mind, Delp is likely to hear his name called with a host of other tight ends early on day three.

The Projection

Chig Okonkwo (Commanders) shares a similar size and explosiveness profile (minus a couple of inches) and lines up with Delp stylistically. Delp can stress a defense and generate chunk plays, but he’s not a finished product as a route runner or blocker. Expect Delp to serve as a no. 2 or 3 tight end in the NFL, but his role could significantly increase if he gets stronger and masters his craft.
