InstinctualPlaymaking
Terrell is a tenacious and infectiously feisty competitor at cornerback; whether he’s in coverage, playing the run, or blitzing off the edge, he is in the action on seemingly every snap. The younger brother of NFL cornerback A.J. Terrell, Avieon was a three-year contributor for the Tigers and filled up the stat sheet there, racking up 125 tackles, four sacks, 40 stops, three picks, 17 pass breakups, and an impressive eight forced fumbles over his career. Terrell played primarily on the outside at Clemson but also saw significant snaps in the slot and in the box. He plays low in his stance, always ready to change direction and pounce on a route. He likes to play in press, crowding opposing receivers off the line. He mirrors well and attaches himself to the opposing receiver’s hip, showing smooth footwork in his transition from a backpedal to a trailing position. Terrell has a good sense for looking back for the ball when it’s in the air. He’s an excellent blitzer who flies in off the edge and arrives at the quarterback in a flash. And in the run game, he’s a forceful tackler who regularly sticks his face in the fan to stop a running back or ballcarrier. He rips and swipes and clubs at the ball, hoping to cause a fumble.
Terrell has a slim, wiry build, and his lack of size could be a concern for some teams. There are times when his aggressiveness can be a double-edged sword. He flies downhill too fast and overruns the play. He needs to be more consistent about finishing as a tackler. He occasionally loses track of his responsibility in zone coverage.
