Orange, a.k.a. “Big Citrus,” is a massive bruiser on the inside who overwhelms opponents with brute power and surprisingly quick feet. A four-year contributor for the Cyclones, he primarily lined up at nose tackle but also saw snaps at multiple spots on the defensive line. He has a low-cut, square build and plays with excellent leverage against the run, eating up blocks and taking on double-teams. He’s a real load for interior linemen to handle, packing a powerful punch, strong hands, and incredible upper-body torque. His fists land on opponents’ chests with knock-back power, and he shows the ability to rip and pull offensive linemen off-balance. He has an effective swim move to shoot past opponents and into the pocket. Orange gets underneath the pads of opponents and forklifts them off the ground in the run game, showing the ability to muck up run plays, get into the backfield, and change the running back’s rush path. He controls the man in front of him while keeping his eyes in the backfield, reacting at the right time to shed the block and make the tackle. He shows enough foot speed and agility to string out wide zone or outside runs.
Orange is in the backfield a lot, but his lack of elite speed means he doesn’t always finish. He has just one career sack and may be viewed as an early-down run stuffer only. There are times when he loses track of the ballcarrier and drifts away from the action. He’s on the ground a little more often than you’d like to see.
