DrewAllar
Aggressive, big-armed passer with a high ceiling—if he can clean up his mechanical issues and throw with better accuracy.
PrototypicalFrame
Allar’s a strong-armed, aggressive thrower who can drive the football into tight windows and make off-schedule plays with his legs, but his inconsistent accuracy could keep him from starting at the next level. A five-star recruit, he was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions, posting a career 61-to-13 touchdown to interception ratio while adding 12 scores with his legs. A multi-season team captain, he brings prototypical size at 6-foot-5 and 228 pounds and boasts a strong arm, showing seemingly effortless velocity on deep outs and vertical throws. He goes through his reads quickly and finds the open man, layering passes over linebackers or dropping it in a bucket down the sideline. He flashes the ability to stare down a blitz and deliver a pass. He’s not exactly a dual-threat runner, but he brings enough athleticism to escape pressure and scramble for first downs when plays break down.
Allar brings high-end traits but often reverts to poor mechanics, which makes his accuracy frustratingly hit or miss. His footwork breaks down too often, leading to missed throws. He too often makes easy dumpoffs and swing passes look difficult (and makes it hard on his receivers with throws at their ankles or over their heads). There are times he hesitates and hitches on open throws, causing the timing to be off or allowing a defender into the window. He broke his left ankle against Northwestern, had surgery, and missed the rest of the season.
