Barham is a versatile, rugged defender who splits his time between playing off-the-ball linebacker (his primary role in 2024) and edge rusher (where he majored in 2025) and consistently mucks things up for opposing offenses. He transferred to Michigan in 2024 after two years at Maryland, and he totaled 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, three passes defensed, and a forced fumble for the Wolverines last year. He’s a menace off the edge, exploding upfield at the snap while aggressively flying to the ball. He deftly plays through block attempts, consistently chopping away at tackles’ hands to keep himself clean. He marries his footwork to his upper half, shooting past tackles before they even know what hit them. He frees himself on the rush with forceful push-pull moves. In the run game, he takes on blocks with a ferocious style and responds like he’s offended when tight ends try to block him. He gives opponents a moving target, slipping and ducking under attempted blocks to muddy up run plays and make tackles in the backfield. He holds his ground at the point of attack, digging in his heels and disrupting run lanes. He arrives at the ball carrier with extreme force and always looks to dislodge the ball.
Barham is slightly undersized on the edge; he has power but can be displaced by disciplined offensive linemen who use their hands and don’t just try to hit him. He’s still very raw as a rusher and needs to build a repertoire of pass rush moves. He’s a tweener-type player who lacks the prototypical size to play the edge; is he an off-ball linebacker, a pure edge, or a mix? There are times when his unbridled aggressiveness lands him out of position. He is such a hard charger upfield that he runs past the play. A good landing spot with a coach who has a plan for him will be key.
