Trotter is a high-intensity field general who gets teammates set up in the right spots and always seems to know where the ball is going. He transferred to Missouri in 2025 after two years at West Virginia, and he’s the son of former NFL linebacker Jeremiah Trotter and brother of current Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. He shows excellent instincts and play recognition against the run, consistently anticipating where the ball is going and quickly getting to the spot where he can make a play. He has good vision when watching the play develop and keeping himself in a spot to man multiple gaps. He homes in on the ball without a false step and doesn’t often take the cheese on misdirection attempts. He has stopping power as a hitter and takes on blocks with a fury, refusing to be sealed out of the action. He’s an excellent blitzer who explodes through the line, clubbing punches away while juking and strafing to avoid blocks. He has chase-down speed to close the gap on ball carriers and sticks with the play even when he initially misses. He sniffs out screens and reacts quickly to beat blockers to the catch point. He’s a redshirt sophomore and will turn just 21 before the draft.
There are times when Trotter comes in too hot on a target and misses. He occasionally overplays behind the line and loses track of the ball carrier. He can be neutralized by offensive linemen at the second level. He takes chances to go around blocks and ends up out of his gap. His coverage instincts are a question mark. Too often, he ends up out of position when dropping back in space.
